[attr="class","textstuff"] A week or so after the ordeal she had text him - and it seemed to send his phone mad. The vibration had rumbled against the bedside table with such enthusiasm that it woke him up from his sleep. He'd paced the dorm hall a few times, made breakfast and read over class notes before finally answering.

What was on his mind for the majority of his time was a curvaceous, fiery-tempered but, as he'd recently discovered, vulnerable woman who had, despite all wits, asked for his number. For months they had seemed to be bound to each other. Fate seemed to pull them apart and push them back together with alarming frequency but now it was not up to chance.

Of all the things she might have said to him, asking to go on a date was not one he expected. Was it a joke? A light-hearted statement? Once he might have called himself a ladies man but right now he was all nerves and hot and completely set to blow steam from every vent. It was getting ridiculous by now. Every time he saw her his heart tensed up a little more, and he was concerned.

What if something slipped this time, and she pushed him away? It wasn't like she was just another person he wanted beneath him - no, by now he'd realised Lynn was something different. Someone, even. He'd thought about Christmas cards and spent a while outside a store wondering if he should or not. What was the harm?

He'd never been on a date before - where to go, what to do, it was all a mess and figuring something out had taken more wits than he might have expected. But, as chance had it, the lights were being switched on, and that usually gathered a crowd. Vendors sold hot drinks and food and the cafés were open late just for it. So he'd asked; we could go watch the lights. they sometimes have fireworks...

Now he found himself waiting for her by a bus stop at the mouth of down town. People walked by in throngs - groups of students, families, couples and strangers. Children ran around peoples feet and complained in chorus. He leaned on his cane and checked his phone, making sure she hadn't texted to cancel. He'd already sent her a message to confirm he had arrived - and that it was very, very busy.
